Scottish Caterer - Breakfast Feature November 2002

Speciality Breads or Muffins - Great for breakfast

With UK consumers clearly adopting more cosmopolitan eating habits, this trend can also be seen at breakfast time. The continental style breakfast is an established favourite and the discerning are looking for traditional and authentic breakfast breads.

Speedibake's range of speciality rolls and breads, such as the Harvester petit pain and Ciabatta rolls, which are moist on the inside and have a tasty crust structure, are great served with good quality conserves or honey and really do brighten up the breakfast table.

And for those more interested in a sweet indulgence, Speedibake's Double Chocolate mushroom shape muffins are the answer. Also ideal for people with a need for early morning sweet treat, and little time, are the Speedibake Chelsea and Belgian buns with a hint of spice to compliment the fruit. Coffee and a bun is becoming a popular alternative breakfast choice for the busy worker, and breakfast on the hoof in the hotel coffee shop is becoming increasingly popular.

Speedibake's impressive new product development programme has been made possible through investment in market research and development coupled with a new state-of-the-art speciality bread plant. The new plant allows a huge variety of shapes as well as hand cutting and topping. This 'hand-crafting', together with the production process provides the authentic taste that is helping to grow the market.

Marie Gawley, Senior product Manager, comments: "Our foodservice customers are looking for exciting, innovative new products to help satisfy consumer demand within speciality breads. With our npd capability and the development of over fifty breads, there is clearly no one better placed to lead innovation in the speciality bread market than Speedibake."
